I am proud to serve as plant manager at this important facility.
Honeywell’s Metropolis Works plant site is dedicated to the safe conversion of uranium oxide ore into uranium hexafluoride, a key raw material used to produce enriched uranium for use in nuclear power plants. The services we provide are critical to the nuclear fuel industry, and our customers depend on us for quality products and reliable performance.
We take our responsibility to run our plant safely at all times extremely seriously, and we invest continuously in ways to make our plant safe. As part of Honeywell’s overall commitment to safety, we operate under the principles of the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® program. This program is the foundation of health, safety and environmental excellence in our industry. Responsible Care fosters cooperation among chemical industry companies to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes. Over the past 10 years, Honeywell has invested more than $100 million on projects that directly support health, safety and the environment, and we anticipate that we will continue to spend at least $10 million a year for this purpose.
We provide materials to the nuclear fuel industry, and because of that, we operate under a license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and we must comply with their standards. We have a good working relationship with NRC and rely on their ongoing guidance and support.
As an active member of the Metropolis community, Honeywell participates in a number of local business and safety organizations and provides support to area first responders, students and teachers. You can learn more about this support under the “In Our Community” tab at the top of this web page.
I look forward to providing you with information about our commitment to safety, serving our customers and providing good jobs in the Metropolis community.
